Barefoot Cop Rescues Terrified Dog Hidden in Dark Tunnel

In May 2016, a heartwarming story emerged on social media about a little dog named Cece who became trapped in a dark tunnel beneath a canal channel in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. The Yorkshire terrier puppy had fled into the tunnel after being startled by a passing car and was unable to move.

Peggy Edwards, who discovered the stranded dog, was hesitant to help for fear of scaring the puppy further into the tunnel. She called the Woonsocket Police Department for assistance, and Officer Joe Brazil came to the rescue.

Officer Brazil

Officer Brazil, who is known for his willingness to help, arrived on the scene and immediately jumped into action. He removed his shoes and socks before entering the tunnel to avoid scaring the frightened puppy. Once he was close enough, he coaxed Cece to follow his fingers a little further into the tunnel before hoisting her up and carrying her to safety. The entire rescue was captured in heartwarming photos and videos that quickly went viral on social media.

Cece’s owner, Michelle Perez, was overjoyed to be reunited with her beloved puppy. She had been searching for Cece since the previous day, when the puppy escaped from her home. The rescue was a testament to the kindness and bravery of Officer Brazil, who risked his own safety to save a helpless animal.
