Michigan, a white dog, was rescued from Lake Michigan’s frigid waters after slipping through the ice. The Wisconsin Humane Society took care of him while they tried to find his owners. When it became apparent that his owners were not coming forward, the society received a large number of adoption applications for him.

Brenda Thompson was selected to be Michigan’s new mother after going through hundreds of applications. She went to the shelter right away after seeing Michigan in the press and has formally adopted him. Brenda adopted a black Lab after Hurricane Katrina, so Michigan will also have a sister.

Brenda plans to take Michigan for a long, leisurely walk and ensure he has a good start in his new home. Michigan’s happy ending has been shared with the public, and people are invited to read and share the post.
