Meet Stu, the St. Bernard who’s been through the ringer and come out the other side wagging his tail. Found abandoned in a filthy crate in an abandoned house, Stu’s story is a heart-wrenching tale of neglect and miraculous recovery.

Stu’s ordeal began when he was discovered by the Stray Rescue of St. Louis. The poor pooch was nothing more than skin and bones, weighing a shocking 43 pounds – that’s at least 80 pounds underweight for a dog of his breed! This gentle giant, who should be tipping the scales at 120 to 180 pounds, was barely clinging to life, soaked in his own urine and too weak to lift his head.

Fighting for Survival

The rescue team sprang into action. Stu was given a much-needed bath, warmed up, and hooked to IV fluids. His body was starving for calories and nutrients. The first night was touch-and-go; the team wasn’t sure if Stu would make it. But Stu, the warrior, wasn’t ready to give up just yet.

In a twist that would melt the hardest of hearts, Stu greeted his rescuers the next morning with a wagging tail and sloppy kisses. His determination to live was nothing short of miraculous. He even managed to stand up and walk, showing everyone he had the willpower to recover.

From Abandoned to Adored

Stu’s journey to recovery continued, and his gentle demeanor quickly won over the hearts of everyone at the rescue center. His story spread like wildfire, garnering support from all corners of the globe. This outpouring of love and support helped secure him a foster home with a family experienced in caring for St. Bernards.

Stu’s new family took him in with open arms. In just a few days, he had already gained 20 pounds! Although he still battles an upset tummy, he’s eating well and discovering the joys of life, like gnawing on tennis balls and soaking up all the love he can get.

Living Like Royalty

Stu’s foster family treats him like the king he is. He’s showered with attention, and if anyone dares to stop petting him, he’s quick to nibble until he gets more cuddles. Despite his rough start, Stu’s energy is returning, and he’s even acting like a lapdog – a role he’s allowed to enjoy until he reaches a healthy weight.

Stu’s story is far from over, but with the incredible support of his new family and the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, this brave St. Bernard is well on his way to a full recovery. Keep an eye on Stray Rescue of St. Louis for more updates on Stu, the dog who refused to give up!
